Cafe 100.7, the radio station that played my music daily….has changed its format. This is devastating news to those who were thrilled with the station that brought the AAA format of radio to Winnipeg for the first time. Here is an article from “The Lance”, a community paper that speaks of the format change. I have emailed the writer of the column, Elisha Cumbers, to thank her for her kind words and support.
Cafe 100.7 broke my heart

I’m in music mourning.
No, I’m not mourning the loss of soul man James Brown, although I am sad about losing a funk legend who inspired so many.
I’m mourning my radio station.
Cafe 100.7 has gone country and has even given themselves a country name - Hank FM.
(Although why they chose to announce this by looping a modified version of Gary Glitter’s Rock’n'Roll – with a crowd screaming ‘Hank! Hank! Hank!’ behind it – for days on end is beyond me.)
My heart is broken. I finally had a mainstream radio station that played good local music.
Where will I get my daily dose of sultry crooner Jodie Borle, the rockin’ band Audiochrome, or the fun and funky Be Good Tanyas?
None of the many, many Top 40 radio stations in this town seem to know they exist. (Before you state the obvious, I already bought their albums.)
Oh, I understand the reasons behind this change.
After only a year, ratings were low and they have money to make now, people!
I guess I was duped when their music philosophy stated they were about respecting the music, not pandering to slimy music corporations pushing the latest sexed-up tween “sensation” or Nickelback sound-alike.
And yes, I’ll admit the morning show wasn’t great. The host talked more about her kids than anything and got pop-culture references wrong more often than right. Not great for a station trying to push the coolest local music.
And the slogan “Live, Love, Listen?”
Lame.
But the music. The music was good. The music made me stay despite the many flaws.
And now it’s gone.
Oh, stop whining, you’ll tell me, you’re being bitter and utterly unfair.
It’s a business, and if they’re not making money, can you blame them for trying something new?
Of course I can.
Forget new formats. As James Brown would say, play that funky music till you die.
