Valentine’s Day is the happiest day of the year!

Oh, Valentine’s Day. Just the thought of it makes me see red…..literally. Ok, so, I’m not a fan of the day. Single people never are. I don’t celebrate it. But, I’m in the business of helping other people celebrate it, so here is this year’s contribution. I’m singing at the Current Lounge on Sunday, February 14th (obviously) and I’ll be crooning love song after love song for all of those adorable couples. If you have a date, bring them down to the Current Lounge and sample their delicious menu items. If you’re single, come to the lounge and sample their delicious bar items. ;) Order one for me while you’re at it!

There’s something for everyone down at the Current Lounge. Show starts at 8:00pm. See you there! I’ll be the one wearing red.

Wanna be Flashed?

Welcome Friends!

It’s great to be back. After some rough times, we have emerged with a bright, shiny new website. Thanks to my great designer friends, I’m very pleased with the new and improved jodieborle.com, complete with flash animation for the very first time. Woo hooo!

It’s been a rough road these last few weeks, as I’ve been suffering from Pneumonia and have been unable to get out there and perform. My next gig is Friday, and I hope to be up to the task. I’m still not feeling much better, but I hope my body will cooperate and at least help me get back to the microphone. Then again, I do have this sexy rasp thing going on…..

So, as I slowly recover from Pneumonia, I do still have some exciting gigs planned for the fall. I have been chosen to showcase at the Ontario Contact conference in Mississauga, Ontario in October. I have also just received word that I have been chosen to showcase at the Western Canadian Music Awards in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Both events are on the same weekend (Oct. 17-21) so I’m hoping everything will work out and I’ll be able to perform at both.

So, if you’re interested in hearing this newly aquired sexy rasp thing I have, drop by on Friday, September 14th at the Paragon Restaurant in downtown Winnipeg, where I will be kicking off the season with the Dr.Dave Trio. Show starts at 5:30pm and goes till 8:30pm. The Paragon Restaurant, for those that have not yet been there, serves fantastic food, so I encourage all to come down, listen to some great jazz, and stay for dinner. I personally recommend the Chicken a la Greque. I hope to see you there!!

Take care (and so will I)

Jodie

MySpace

Hi everyone,

As you have probably read on the front page of the website, we are in the process of creating a brand new fancy shmancy website. In the meantime, may we please direct you to MySpace: a lovely little community of sites where you can find all the brand new Jodie Borle information while you wait for the new and improved jodieborle.com.

To find Jodie’s site, please use this link: http://www.myspace.com/jodieborle

There, you will find a complete, and up to date gig listing so that you can keep track of all the exciting Jodie Borle events.

Please also note that Jodie’s albums are available through iTunes. If you know of anyone outside the Winnipeg area that would love Jodie’s music, and that likes to download music off the internet, please direct them to http://www.apple.com/itunes/. From there, they can search the iTunes Store for “Jodie Borle” and voila! Fantastic music will appear on their computer screen.

Thanks for your patience while we start the designing process. Remember, you can visit Jodie anytime on her Myspace page, or live….at a venue near you!

Take care. We’ll see you again soon.

Random Thought of the Day

I have no idea. And it’s really bugging me. And it’s weird it’s bugging me, because this is something that shouldn’t bug me. This is what’s bugging me:

WHY is the “R” the only letter that’s highlighted a different colour on the “Fabricland” sign??? WHY???? I HAVE to know.

If you know, tell me, and I’ll give you a free CD. Then it won’t bug me anymore.

The Death of Cafe 100

Cafe 100.7, the radio station that played my music daily….has changed its format. This is devastating news to those who were thrilled with the station that brought the AAA format of radio to Winnipeg for the first time. Here is an article from “The Lance”, a community paper that speaks of the format change. I have emailed the writer of the column, Elisha Cumbers, to thank her for her kind words and support.

Cafe 100.7 broke my heart

By Elisha Cumbers

Jan. 4, 2007 (The Lance)
I’m in music mourning.
No, I’m not mourning the loss of soul man James Brown, although I am sad about losing a funk legend who inspired so many.
I’m mourning my radio station.
Cafe 100.7 has gone country and has even given themselves a country name - Hank FM.
(Although why they chose to announce this by looping a modified version of Gary Glitter’s Rock’n'Roll – with a crowd screaming ‘Hank! Hank! Hank!’ behind it – for days on end is beyond me.)
My heart is broken. I finally had a mainstream radio station that played good local music.
Where will I get my daily dose of sultry crooner Jodie Borle, the rockin’ band Audiochrome, or the fun and funky Be Good Tanyas?
None of the many, many Top 40 radio stations in this town seem to know they exist. (Before you state the obvious, I already bought their albums.)
Oh, I understand the reasons behind this change.
After only a year, ratings were low and they have money to make now, people!
I guess I was duped when their music philosophy stated they were about respecting the music, not pandering to slimy music corporations pushing the latest sexed-up tween “sensation” or Nickelback sound-alike.
And yes, I’ll admit the morning show wasn’t great. The host talked more about her kids than anything and got pop-culture references wrong more often than right. Not great for a station trying to push the coolest local music.
And the slogan “Live, Love, Listen?”
Lame.
But the music. The music was good. The music made me stay despite the many flaws.
And now it’s gone.
Oh, stop whining, you’ll tell me, you’re being bitter and utterly unfair.
It’s a business, and if they’re not making money, can you blame them for trying something new?
Of course I can.
Forget new formats. As James Brown would say, play that funky music till you die.

Elisha Cumbers does not like country music. Reach her at elisha.cumbers@CanstarNews.com

Current Lounge Performance

Hi everyone,

Please note that although it is advertised that I am performing Thursday to Saturday (Jan. 18-20) at the Current Lounge, I will NOT be there on Saturday.

Again, I will ONLY be performing in the lounge on Thursday and Friday evening.

Let it Snow!

It’s snowing in Winnipeg today. A lot. To celebrate this momentous occasion, let me guide you to a place where you can hear me sing a very lovely rendition of “Let it Snow” from my album Snow. Go to www.manitobamusic.com and click on their “click to launch manitobamusic radio.” There, you shall find not one, but TWO Jodie B smash hits. Go and listen and you’ll hear the other one. I’m keeping the identity of the other song a secret, so now you have no choice but to go and listen. Hooray!

By the way……it’s a brand new song that you have not heard before. Woo hoo!!

Pennies from Heaven

This year, the Winnipeg Free Press continues on the fine tradition of helping out Winnipeggers in need. This year, my album “Snow” was chosen to help out in a unique sort of way. Every time you hear a radio spot on Cafe 100, you will also be hearing selections from my CD. I was very honoured that they asked me to be a part of it, and I personally thank Lindor Reynolds of the Free Press for not only putting on this amazing fundraiser, but wanting me to be a part of it.

If you are interested in knowing more about this cause, here are the details from the Winnipeg Free Press website, www.winnipegfreepress.com.

 Here’s how you can donate:

The Pennies From Heaven fundraiser will help to provide food, toys and other gifts this holiday season to financially challenged Winnipeggers. It is a great way to help support families that may be less fortunate than our own. Let’s all help out! Cheques should be made out to Pennies From Heaven. You can mail them or drop them off at the Winnipeg Free Press, 1355 Mountain Ave, Winnipeg, R2X 3B6. Tax receipts will be issued for amounts greater than $10. You can also drop off your coins or cheques at any Manitoba BMO Financial Branch or at Cafe 100 at 520 Corydon Ave. or in the MTS sykwalk.

Donations can also be made at centre court at Polo Park shopping centre.

The Power of Radio

Get your ears on people! I will be appearing on a number of Winnipeg radio stations to promote “Snow” in the coming weeks. Thanks to the supportive Winnipeg music scene, I’ll have a chance to speak with the hosts of some great radio programs and perform some tunes live on air. If you are outside the Winnipeg area, you can listen on the internet at the stations’ websites:

December 3rd 8:00pm CST
“52nd Street”

Host: Jeremy “Jay” Akerstream

I have made several appearances on this show, hosted by my friend Jeremy. A gem on campus radio, this little show features the best of classic jazz. I will be infiltrating the studio to showcase some of my own classic jazz sounds.

December 9th 10:00am CST
“Beer for Breakfast”

Host: “Bad Broose” Tulloch
